Though the fig tree should not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines ... YET I will rejoice in the Lord; I will take joy in the God of my salvation.

Habakkuk 3:17-18

Three little letters, but what a difference they can make in our attitudes and our lives. Most of us are probably not too concerned about whether the fig trees blossom, but we do have worries, fears, and problems. Though we get bad news from our medical tests, YET we can rejoice that our Lord walks with us on that unwanted journey. Though we lose a dear friend, YET we can take joy in the wonderful promises of eternal life. Though a family relationship becomes fractured, YET we know that God is working in that situation.

Job, amid his horrific suffering and the unhelpful advice of his friends, said “I know that my Redeemer lives ... and in the end I will see him.” What a triumphant “YET” this is!

Linda Winterhoff

Loving Father, help me face any negatives in my life today with a resounding “YET!” Amen.

Reflect: Think of heroes in the Bible who practiced this “YET” philosophy!

Read: Job 19:25-27 and Romans 8:28
